Data by place of residence comes from the Census Bureau, primarily from the Residential Area Characteristics. Emsi Burning Glass then uses data from Origin-Destination to map workers from their residential area to the workplace, using data from the Workplace Area Characteristics.
Additionally, data from the Residential and Workplace Area Characteristics datasets are at the Census block level, and Emsi Burning Glass maps the data from the Census block to the Zip code level using a mapping from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The original data is provided by industry; Emsi Burning Glass therefore applies staffing patterns to convert it to occupation.
Unlike most employment data found in Analyst, occupation by place of residence data shows occupational employment figures by where workers live, not by where they work.
